Pietra Montecorvino

Pietra Montecorvino is an Italian actress and singer. Her voice is raspy, dark, and sexy in the way a cigarette is sexy, or the way chocolate is sexy.

One thing is certain: she really sells it. God damn.

Pance Party

Pance Party are a San Francisco trio that makes ruckus, bouncy electro. I love their basslines. I love how when you tweet about them they respond in kind.

It's hard to find any artist or group that consistently makes fun electro bangers, but these guys pull it off! I like EVERY remix in their catalog, and their original work ain't bad either.

Pon De Floor Remixes

Pon De Floor was one of the most popular EDM (electronic dance music) tracks of 2009, if not the most popular.

It spawned an ungodly number of remixes, mashups, edits, reworks, and re-interpretations.

I even heard some weird remix of Pon De Floor on So You Think You Can Dance.

Yeah, it got big.

Major Lazer is the brainchild of Diplo and Switch. I have a love/hate relationship with Diplo -- some of this stuff he churns out I think is lazy -- but the Major Lazer collab works.

Just as busking lads play Wonderwall in the London underground year after year, year after year I'm going to drop these Pon De Floor remixes... and guaranteed, drunk people will dance.

Classixx & Passion Pit Remixes

I just heard a Passion Pit track in a Palm commercial. (I think it was Palm...) PP's blowing up!

This remix balances delicately between frantic and groovy. Appropriate for peak time.

Classixx - I'll Get You (Treasure Fingers Remix)

Do you like bass? Do you, do you like bass?

I DO like bass!

Fantastic breakdown. All the remixes of this track are decent -- but this one is my favorite.

Jónsi

Jónsi, lead singer of Sigur Rós, is releasing his first solo album later in the year.

Entitled Go, it will be his first album sung predominantly in English. Judging by the first single, Boy Lilikoi, it is going to be fantastic.

Miami Horror & Lady Gaga Remixes

Miami Horror - Make You Mine (Codebreaker Remix)

OK...this is how house should sound in the upcoming decade. Crisp, clean, with a variety of vocal effects that aren't cheesy -- this is one of my favorite remixes of 2009.

Skrillex turns Gaga's single into a unique electro banger. Damn. If you want to remix a Top 40 tracks, here's how to do it right. I love the details: how it plays homage to "Just Dance", the transitions, the almost trance-esque synth that supports the main electro lead. Brilliant.

The Radio version has a more coherent structure. Something's a little off on the club mix, but yes, it is more DJ friendly. Both are worth a listen.

Ellie Goulding

♥♥♥♥♥♥

Ellie Goulding is my age (23). She's Welsh. She's an indie singer songwriter, better known for her charming voice than her lyrics. Starsmith is her producer, who I'm not crazy about.

She's coming out with a debut album this year. When it comes out, expect the usual suspects in the blogopsphere to cover the hell out of it.

Above, I've posted one monster of a dubstep remix by Jeuce, and my favorite of her original work, Fighter Plane, where her vocals (and vocal effects) are prominent.
